  7. We welcomed the Queen and Prince Philip, along with hundreds of port workers, at the harbour.
My husband was working with Mina Jebel Ali Construction building the port. Fantastic to see Britannia . Quite a sight to see a stream of Rolls Royce’s in a line! I had taken a day of work at Sheikh Rashid’s hospital to see them as she visited the Abu Dhabi hospital and not ours!

  8. I was in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at the time. A couple of days later HM came to Riyadh, but there was a problem with the royal banquet which was being laid on…MALE ONLY.. solution she was made a man for the night. Three years later when Margaret Thatcher came no problem… the Saudis said Maggie had ba**s.

  13. I almost met her at the Trade Centre! Was outside when she arrived, but she stopped and talked to my Aussie friend – Jan Cooper – who was standing beside me instead!! I remember thinking how small she was, how pretty – but how hot she must have been as she was wearing quite a lot of make-up!

  15. I was working in Qatar alongside the long pier where Britannia was moored. The Queen’s procession drove past from the yacht towards the corniche in Doha. My office was three yards away while the Queen was checking her lipstick or powder with her compact mirror. I was immensely proud and applauded as she went past.

  24. I was in Saudi in 1979 and remember her visiting there either before or after Dubai. The story goes, the army were lining up along the route and once she passed buses would pick them up and hare across the desert to the get in front, to drop them off again….not sure how true that was, but it was comical at the time..
