The observation deck of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, formerly known as Burj Dubai, has been closed for repairs only a month after the iconic tower was inaugurated. “Due to unexpected high traffic, the observation deck experience at the Burj Khalifa… has been temporarily closed for maintenance and upgrade,” Emaar Properties said in a announcement. “Technical issues with the power supply are being worked on,” they added, without specifying when visitors could expect to be able to ascend for a panoramic view of Dubai again.
The Burj Khalifa, rising 828 meters high into the sky, was inaugurated just over a month ago as the world’s tallest building in a lavish ceremony. The observation deck on the 124th floor, called At The Top, was the only part of the Dubai icon that was open to the public so far. Visitors to the Burj Khalifa pay 400 AED ($109) for immediate entry and 100 AED ($28) for entry after a two-day wait. If you already bought your ticket then you can rebook or receive an immediate refund, the Emaar statement added.
The Burj Khalifa was known as the Burj Dubai during it’s construction, but Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid al-Maktoum renamed it during the opening ceremony after Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayan, ruler of Abu Dhabi and president of the United Arab Emirates.
