Dubai Taxi Corporation of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has reiterated its commitment to the autism awareness campaign recently launched in cooperation with Dubai Autism Centre (DAC). Under the theme “Discover what fascinates a child with Autism”, the campaign was promoted through awareness advertisements posted on taxi cabs.
“Taxi Cabs Corp. is pleased to work with DAC in raising public awareness on autism as part of our social responsibility to help children with autism”, said Taxi Cabs’ acting CEO, Mr. Ahmad Muhammad Al-Hammadi.
He added the move comes alongside humanitarian activities conducted by Taxi Cabs in fulfillment of its corporate social responsibility.
“Such activities are in the core of our values. We are keen on initiatives that cater for all members of the society particularly children and are eager to reinforce a culture of charitable giving and volunteering.”
DAC’s Director General and board member Mr. Muhammad Al-Imadi welcomed Taxi Cabs’ initiative, which he commended as a reflection of the corporation’s continuing and dedicated efforts in helping children with autism.
“The initiative mirrors a humanitarian commitment by Taxi Cabs towards all segments of the society, particularly autistic children” he said praising the policies of Taxi Cabs in promoting the culture of volunteering and donation among its employees through a pack of specially designed social services and events.
DAC is a charity that falls within the “public utility institutions” in the country. Founded in November 2001 by a decree from late Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the center has a board of directors chaired by Dubai’s Crown Prince and Chairman of Dubai’s Executive Council HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Muhammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It has the mandate of serving autistic children and their parents and care givers.
Autism refers to a group of developmental disorders generally called Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It associates with autistic persons throughout his developmental stages and is characterized by difficulties in social interaction and preference of solitude.
